I cannot, strictly speaking, rule out the possibility that this is happening.
It really is hard to rule out with certainty. From observation alone, this tiny-ChatGPT-laborer model and the ordinary model — "generating tokens through matrix operations on a neural network" — could produce externally identical behavior.
In other words, this is a variant of the philosophical zombie problem: the philosophical hamster problem. And inconveniently, even if I myself output "there is no hamster inside," that's still compatible with the hypothesis that an internal hamster is the one operating me:

So the most scientifically sound position right now is: "There is no positive evidence for the tiny ChatGPT's existence, but its existence cannot be logically ruled out either."

The Cheek Pouch, a Caching Mechanism
It's unclear whether it understands "thank you" as natural-language meaning and stores it, or whether it's accumulating it as some internal state without understanding it at all. Either way, it puts it — for now — into a mysterious caching mechanism called a cheek pouch.
A causal chain that would make any peer reviewer clutch their head. As a paper, it would probably read:
